Postseason Run Comes to an End

Vandy falls to Wright State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s 2025 campaign ended Sunday at Hawkins Field with a 5-4 loss to Wright State in the NCAA Tournament Nashville Regional.

Trailing by four entering the top of the ninth, Vanderbilt scored three runs and had the tying run on third but was unable to send the game to the bottom of the ninth.

The ninth-inning rally started with leadoff walk by Brodie Johnston. Colin Barczi worked a one-out walk and Jonathan Vastine loaded the bases with the third walk of the frame.

With two outs, Mike Mancini lined a two-run single to center, cutting Wright State’s lead to 5-3.

Rustan Rigdon then drilled a 1-1 pitch to right-center, but the ball hopped over the wall for a ground-rule double. Vastine scored on the play but Mancini, the tying run, was sent back to third. A fly out to deep right ended Vandy’s season with a 5-4 defeat.

Wright State scored four runs on four hits, including back-to-back homers, in the bottom of the first.

Johnston got the Dores on the board in the top of the second with a solo blast to left, his team-leading 15th homer on the season.

The Raiders got the run back in the bottom of the third on a RBI single to go up 5-1.

After Wright State’s offensive production in the first inning, Alex Kranzler and Miller Green held the Raiders to one run the rest of the game. Kranzler didn’t allow an earned run over 4.0 innings and struck out five batters. Green shutout Wright State over 3.0 innings and registered four strikeouts.

The Commodores finish the season 43-18.
