Sights Set on SECs

Vanderbilt track and field begins competition Thursday at the SEC Outdoor Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt Track and Field travels to Lexington, Kentucky, for the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday through Saturday at the UK Track and Field.

The last time out
• The Commodores hosted the annual Music City Challenge May 2-3, welcoming 25 teams to Nashville
• Nine marks were added to the program all-time performers list by women’s track and field student-athletes
• Six Dores recorded event wins in the open high jump, 1,500 meters, 100- and 400-meter hurdles and 4×100- and 4×400-meter relays
• Vandy’s 4×100 relay of Ella Escobar, Tina Benzinger, Alima Kassim and Josie Donelson ran a season best 45.51 seconds, the No. 4 time in school history, to win the event

Hurdlers staying hot
• The Commodores’ 400mH squad is ranked third in the USTFCCCA’s Event Squad Rankings (May 6)
• Allyria McBride, who won the event at the Georgia Tech Invitational and Music City Challenge, has a season-best mark of 56.32 seconds
• McBride is currently ranked fifth in the SEC, seventh in the East Region and 12th in the NCAA in the 400 hurdles
• Vanderbilt’s 100mH crew ranks fifth in the country, led  by Falon Spearman with a 13.16-second mark
• Spearman is currently No. 6 in the SEC, No. 16 in the East Region and No. 28 in the NCAA in the 100 hurdles

Record watch
• Active student-athletes hold three outdoor school records and have registered 28 marks ranking in the program all-time top 10 in individual events
• Julia Rosenberg, a five-time scorer at SEC Championships, owns the program record in the 5,000 meters and is ranked top 10 in school history in the 1,500 meters
• Rosenberg was a regional qualifier in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters in 2024
• Spearman set the school record in the 100mH at the 2024 NCAA East First Round and matched the mark at Florida Relays this outdoor season
